The Sunshine Angels will interface with AFFCF’s Keys to Success program, assisting Sunshine youth as they transition from the group home.

AFFCF has recently embarked on a new program to serve young men and women in foster care ages 16-  21. More than 900 youth will age out of foster care at age 18 in Arizona this year – without family relationships to support them and few financial resources.

Their Keys to Success program includes a four step career exploration process: 

• Investigate: Discover the youth’s personality, abilities, skills, interests and priorities.
• Match possible careers to the results of the investigation process. 
• Research potential careers to find top three fits. 
• Prepare a plan to pursue the top career choice.   

What makes this program unique and meaningful is that their career development specialist works one-on-one with each youth, evaluating their interests and skills, values and personality. Once a youth completes the career exploration process, he/she will work with a volunteer who currently works with one of many companies across the Valley that are committed to hiring youth from foster care. Once a youth secures employment, AFFCF will follow up regularly with the employer and the youth.

It is truly a privilege to partner with this amazing foundation that is dedicated to foster children. Arizona Helping Hands provides a new bed with all the bedding, to the young adults that age out of foster care. Also, each month foster children receive a personalized birthday gift to brighten their special day.

Foster children and their staff are invited to a free pizza night at Barro’s Pizza at these Valley locations on an ongoing basis. So far nearly 700 children have enjoyed the great food and special hospitality provided by owner Mike Barro, Manager Ryan Olson (Thunderbird location), Manager Sean Todd (Surprise location), Manager Chris Hamel (Dove Valley location) and their staff.

Also, Chris held a Back-to-School drive last Sept. to help insure that over 300 children had the backpacks and school supplies needed for the new school year.

Thank you, Mike, Chris, Sean and Ryan, for providing these special outings that create happy memories for the foster children living in Residential Group Homes. We appreciate you all and you are making a difference.

We care about helping our community and the Sunshine Angels. Belltower Mini Storage located in Glendale Arizona provides onsite management, auto-bill discounts, gated facility, digital surveillance and discounts for seniors, military and students. The Belltower Mini Storage provides free storage for the Angel’s Attic. This service has been developed to assist young adults as they transition from the group home to independent living. The Sunshine Angels provides basic household items and furniture needs.

Each year the Sunshine Angels join the Kiwanis on their annual walk-a-thon. The Sunshine Angels sign on sponsors and teams of walkers to raise money for foster children at this event. Thank you, Kiwanis, for this opportunity.
